The perfect 2-3 week East Coast Australia Roadtrip
Australia’s East Coast has it all: big cities, surf towns, rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef connected by a single stretch of highway, which is why it’s such a popular road trip. Our 2-3 week itinerary starts in Sydney; from there you either fly or drive up to Brisbane, then follow the coast north to Cairns.
When is the best time to road trip Australia’s East Coast?
May to October is generally the best time to go, especially if you’re travelling through Queensland, with drier weather and more comfortable temperatures. December to February can be much hotter and more humid in the north, with a higher chance of heavy rainfall.
How long do you need for an East Coast Australia road trip?
We recommend around 3 weeks to travel from Brisbane to Cairns at a relaxed pace. The route covers roughly 2,000 km and involves more than 20 hours of driving, so spreading it out gives you enough time to properly enjoy the beaches, islands, rainforest and reef stops along the way.
